Make Your Own Laundry Detergent

Does laundry ever end?!

Congratulations! You’ve clicked on something to find a post that will save you money & be better for your body! This isn’t a post where I’m trying to sell anything, I just want to help you use cleaner products in your life.

Before I discovered this laundry soap I was never one that used powder detergents. It was always liquid as I thought that the powder never dissolved. I guess I was wrong. I had to hand wash one of the delicates and used this soap. It was dissolved in an instant!

The main reason that I was on a mission to find a different detergent was the cost was getting out of hand for the chemical free, dye free, clean detergents. What the heck? Do they think they can charge more because we are conscious of what we don’t want to put in our body?!

…and the reason I was already using the clean detergent was because I was guilty of buying one of those smell good cheaper detergents. Guess what happened? My husband broke out in hives! If you’ve ever had that happen, you know how impossible it is to figure out what you washed with that toxic sludge. I am not one who enjoys laundry and having to clear out the drawers and closets of all clothes just to wash them was a major inconvenience. So I vowed to never have that happen again.

Anyway, enough rambling, I’ll get to the main reason you are here.

How to make your own clean laundry detergent:

  1. Grate one bar of Fells Naptha into a large bowl.

  2. Add one cup Borax

  3. Add one cup Washing Soda

  4. Mix well.

  5. If you want to add essential oils, go for it! I’d suggest starting out with a little bit and adding more to get desired scent. Mix again.

  6. Use 2 Tablespoons per load of laundry.

Note: I grate the Fells Naptha into my food processor and leave those chopping blades in the bottom. Then I put the powders in and mix until it’s well blended. It seems to chop up the bar soap to tiny bits.

I’m not saying this is the end all to be all, but it’s worth a try. Do you have a different recipe for laundry detergent? I’d love to try new ones. Leave a comment for me and others to learn and try!

This is where I say the legal things: This has not been tested by the FDA. I do not claim that it will cure or prevent anything. Double check your wash machine’s warranty…some of them require you to only use certain types of detergent.

I know that I somewhat covered this topic before, but thought that’d I give a little bit more detailed explanation. Of course as a wife of a cattle farmer I’m going to gravitate towards anything beef
