Why tallow?

I've always been amazed at how many chemicals we find in our everyday products. Why do we insist on trying to eliminate our wrinkly skin with some serum that has acid in it just because a commercial told us to do so? I am so glad that we are all getting wiser to what we put in and on our bodies.

Thankfully I am on the other side of breast cancer. Going through that process really changes a person in mind, body and spirit. Along the way I ended up with some of the ugliest scars that I have ever seen. (Let me tell you, I am not a stranger to scars with the gracefulness that I have been blessed with. So, when I tell you these scars were ugly, I really mean it.) The scars were so sore and tight even one year after all the radiation and healing was done. I just knew that I could figure out some way to make it better.

My brother gifted me with a jar of whipped tallow. It was AMAZING! I quickly used that and then ran out to Amazon to find some more. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find that same brand, so settled for something that looked somewhat "natural." It was $45 for 2 ounces too! Seemed like a lot of money to spend on a little amount, but I was so excited to have it in my life again. When it finally arrived, it was grainy and rough when I would apply it. Who wants to rub something grainy on their most sensitive, scarred skin?! That's when it began. Endless searching, YouTube videos & Pinterest filled my spare time for days.

There were so many positive reviews about tallow. Up until all of this I just assumed that tallow if used for baking and would never even consider using it on my skin. (So, believe me when I say, I was just as skeptical as you are right now.) I also happen to be a farmer's wife. We have livestock (beef and my chickens) so why not try to incorporate something that we know a little bit about? While I do utilize a local locker to source our tallow, it is all from our area in Southwest Minnesota.

My tallow that I was able to create was amazing right away! For some reason I was led to the recipe and proper amounts of each ingredient to make exactly what I was looking for. That is when the craziness began. I started sharing with my friends and family. I had the opportunity to showcase my products at a local apple orchard (Rustic Iron by Vesta, MN...absolutely go here with the kiddos, they will love it) and then also attended a local craft show. I also am blessed to live by other business owners that understand the importance of working as a local team and have my product at Knott's Corner in Lucan, MN. (This is one of our favorite places to go to for food and events, I highly recommend coming here for the St. Patrick's Day Parade every year. You will be blown away at how well this small town comes together to raise money for the improvement of their community.)
